Valedictory.FAREWELL TO MR H. C.BAIRD.Mr H. C. Baird, who for nine yea's had ably managed the Moora branch . f (he Bink of Australasia, left by car last Sunday for Perth tn. route lo G.vnfell. New Siulh Wales, where he will be in charge of the same bank's branch there. Mr and Mrs Baird made many friends in the district, and all who know them wish them everything of the best.It was a most representative assemblage of prominent men from all par Is of Ihe district which bid Mr Baird farewell at Mr Austin James's Moora Hotel last Friday afternoon. The Chairman of the Road Board (Mr R. J. McKeever) presided and proposed the toast of ‘ Our Guest.” In doing so he said the district could ill-affotd to lose such men as Mr Baird, who had done much to further its interests duting the whole time ho had resided in Moora. Mrs Baird, loo, had been a good citizen, and she would be greatly missed in social circles. He wished them both well In their new sphere of labour.Mr W J Garrick (Progress Association) legretted losing Mr Baird from the district. He had been a hard w rker on (lie Progress Association and had rendered great assistance to (he Moora Club af a committeeman.Mr O L da Mamiel considered Mr aid Mrs B ird worthy citizens from every standpoint and hoped they would do well at Grenfell.Dr Myles thought Mr Baird had done psrlicularly well for the district —a fact be very much appreciated.Mr P T Sandland paid a high tribute to Mr Baird as a townsman.Mr A H Evans was sorry to say farewell to such a fine citizen as their guest, whom he wished well. 'Rev. F W Gunning said there was a genuine regret at. the depaiture of Mr and Mrs Baird- Mr Baird had bad a hard row to hoe in the past, but he had accomplished much in bis capacity as a bank manager and he would be hard to replace. He was sure Mr Baird would make as good in Grenfell as in Moora.Mr F C Hamilton a id he felt sure the people of the town and district heartily appreciated the effms of Mr and Mrs Baird in their interests;Mr A B Glosler said Mr Baird bad always worked hard for the town and he fully appreciated what he bad done.Mr C M Lauiie (Manager Bank cf New South Wales) said he was very thankful to Mr Baird for useful help in the past, and he was a goad citi-nn,Mr H D Broad (Road Board) fully endorsed the previous speakers’ remarks.Mr G Reeve (Trotting Club) said Mr Baird had done a great deal towards keeping the trotting c'ub in tact, whilst he was also a splendid worker in other circles.After the chairman had presented Mr Baird with a wallet of notes on behalf of town and district .csidenls, the toast was most enthusiastically honoured, For he's a Jolly Good Fellow” being sung.Mr Biird r.turned thanks for the kin -ly references to Mrs Baird and himself, also for the gift. In the nine years he had been in Moora the values of propertirs in the district had increased 50 and mo per cent. He appreciated very much the presence of so many representative citi-7. - ' V V fu' ' - -lanykind actions done him while he was resident in Moora. If he did as well in Grenfell as he had in Moora he would De quite satisfied.Mr P D Ferguson, M.L.A, submitted the toast of Mr Biird's Successor—Mr Senior,!’ extending a hearty welcome to the latter gentleman. He assured Mr Senior that Moora was a hospitable town. Referring to Mr Biird. he said he was a man who had always palled his weight” during his stay in Moora. He had always given the district a good advertisement by telling Imd-•eekers that there were no farms for sale in this district “for a pound of tea.” Settlers here were not anxious to sell their farms.In response Mr Senior said he would epdeavour to do his utmost for the district in every respect.Moora’s Annual Social Event.
