Tasteful contest at fairPOMONA - Pucker up your taste buds, get out your favorite recipes!The best tasting days of the Los Angeles County Fair are almost here.The Home Arts Departmentof the exposition, which runs Sept. 13 through 29, will again sponsor the annual “My Favorite Chocolate Cake and “My Favorite Lemon Pie competitions.Open only to amateurs, thecompetitions give all prospective Betty Crockers or Mike Roys a chance to prove their worth in the field of culinary delights.A traditional favorite with chocolate lovers is the Chocolate Cake Contest, which will be held on Wed. Sept. 18 in the Home Arts Showcase. Sheet cakes only are allowed for judging in two categories, best tasting and best decorated. It’s possible for the same cake to win in both areas. Twodivisions are offered junior (under 18) and senior (over 18).Lemon lovers, have their night Wed. Sept. 25, when judging for My Favorite Lemon Pie gets underway. The 9-inch lemon pies will compete for taste and appetite appeal at 7:30 p.m. in the Home Arts Building. Cash awards will be given in both junior and senior divisions.Entry deadline for pies and cakes is Aug. 10.
