The inviti on was extended by Mr. and Mrs. Glasscock, owners of The valanche, on behalf of the Alpine chamber of Commerce. Directors of the association will be to Alpine about three months fore the convention dates to ake full plans for the gathering. Officers Named the Lubbock meeting, W. H. Jatam Jr. of the State Line Tri be at Farwell was elected pres ent to succeed Roy Fox of the slorado Record. Other new offe rs are Joe Pickle, ,Big Spring, 1st vice-president; Francis Perry, a son, second vice-president; and rs. Violeta Mahood, Stamford, stetary-treasurer. New directors named for 2-year runs were Glasscock, Alpine; eal Vanzant, Seagraves and Jam Roberts, Andrews. Holdoverdi tors are Jim Allison Jr., Mid d.; Walter Durrain, Eden; and M. Hatch, Hamilton. Among resolutions passed by the Association was the following: ‘Whereas, members of the West exas Press Association consta ntly have maintained the best terests of all citizens can be set when they are fully informed; and “Whereas, closed door sessions defeat the purpose of self govern ment and deprive citizens of their constitutional right to know. and “Whereas, the recent firing of Texas Tech ‘professors in a closed door session pointed up this dan ger to what we hold a basic right. “Now, therefore, do we, the West Texas Press Association, at this 27th annual association meeting, once more reaffirm our opposition to star chamber or closed door meetings of any public body.” VETERAN COOKS — Four of the six men responsible for the feeding of the thousands who have attended Paisano Baptist Encampment for over 37 years have cooked over 1,000,000 meals.
