We need a lot of gogctters now j to put over that swimming pool. Carnes park Ls one of the finest in the South. Hundreds of people use It every week. Since it was first opened by the Park Commission who had united support of the Jaycees, this park has been improved, enlarged and has now become one of the show places of Camden. All it needs is a swimming pool. A pool has been a dream of Camden for years and years. Only public pool Camden ever had in modern times was during the oil boom days of the 20's down in the ravine back behind the Gllle-land furniture co., when a park was built down there. That pool lasted only a year or two and then had to fold i-p because of legation and low drainage. Years before that the Newton brothers, R. D. nnd J. E. bui'l a amusement patk ' in the Newton ravine just north of ] Greening street where many houses lt;are built now but then there was nothing but a big ravine. That was ■ popular too for n few years but lt;it closed. There was a big shoot-gailery, side shows, b i g air- i drome, pop corn machines, and the like but it did not pay off and was later abandoned.
