There was a lar/e quantity of grain in tbc mill at the t«mc of the fire, and which was all destroyed. The building; was large, and contained, if wo recollect right, six run of stones; the loss of which must he severely fell by the farmers in the neighborhood. We understand there was xomo insurance effected on the property.— There was not the slightest chance of saving the building, as the fire had made f?cat progress before it was discovered, and being of wood, speedily yielded to the fiery sway of the devouring element. We have not heafd the estimate of the loss which Dr. Claxke will sustain by this calastrophy.We regret the occurrence of the fire as well for the great loss which its spirited proprietor must experience, as for tho fact that it has been tho work of an incendiary. We are constrained to give full credit to the report that it sva« so. It is notoriously known that the state of feelingcxisting between certain classes of society in Guclnh and its neighborhood, for Some time past, has been in a must unhappy condition, ond that already two victims have found an early grave in consequence of the indulgence of these unhallowed dis tensions. The unfortunate Olivxr was murdered, and his murderer, the youthful CocMui, expiated his crime by an ignominious death One might have thought that these awful warnings would have the effect of checking the eril--dijj»osed in their wicked and thoughtless career, and force them to reflect Hut they were subject tn temporal and eternal judgements. But alas, it is not so. Since the execution of CochJin, letters threatening the lives and properties of different individuals in this unhappy neighborhood, hare been written to a number of the persons who were officially engaged on that solemn occasionand wc find that these threats are being carried into execution. Who next may suffer under the brand of the cowardly Incendiary, time may soou reveal. How long this stale of things may lost none can tell - and it is a lamentable fad, that in this diseased state of soriely, such characters receive shelter and encouragement. It then becomes the imperative duly of every individual, and of every good member of society, no matter whether Pro tcstant or Catholic, to unite in assisting the authorities in ferreting out the cowardly, dia bdiol Incendiary, and bringing him to condign pnniihmenf.
