Mrs. Hyler was awakened by o man who Htepped on the front porch and knocked at the front door, calling for Mrs. Martin Mrs. Hyler awakened Mrs. Mart.n A car was in the fltrQCt in front of the house, headed north The* man at the door told the women that they were chasing a man whohad gone north and they wanted touse the phone Being suspicious of him, the women told him the phone woi out of order. However, he insist* ed on coming inMrs. Martin, becoming alarmed at the attempt or the man to enter the house, called to Mr Scott, who liven next door, and told him to come overand bring his gun, that robbers wereottemptfng to enter her house Mr Scott, without waiting to arm himself, started for the Martin home. The prowlers ran for their car and hod started when Mr Scott reached the street As he ordered them to stop they ft red upon him.Mrs. Martin did not recognize the men. It was found later that the telephone ground wire at tho aide of tho house nod been cut and an Iowa road map was found in the street where the robber car was parked.*• The wounded man is under tho care of Dr. J M. Perry and Dr C, J Laws. The extent of his wounds cannot bo determined at this time.This is the second attempt that has been made by prowlers to enter the Martin home. Tho other attempt wag made last aprtng about 9 o'clock In the evening when a man stopped at tho home and Informed Mrs. Martin that ho had come to repair the telephone. At this time ft la thought there were three msft fh tho party, a largo man being seen at the side of the house and a smaller man coming to the front door of the home. It Is thought that the third man remained in the car.Tho men finally left after an argu ment but later drove by the house again. Mr. Scott who had been away from home retufhed In CEe 'meantime and was informed of their visit Ho armed himself and was hiding near the house awaiting their return. It fs believed they saw him and did not venture to come to the door again.Although Mrs Martin did not ret-ognize the intruders at that time, Hhe believes that the men who came to her home this morning may have been the same party.—Princeton Post
