mr4 a. m. carpenterCELEBRATES HER 99th BIRTHDAY ON AUG. 5A birthday celebration in honor of the 99th birthday of Mrs. Artey Min-cy Carpenter, wife of L. A. Carpenter, deceased, a veteran of the Mexican war of 1846, was held at the delightful country home of her son, Mr. T. J. Carpenter, of Cherokee County, Ga., on August 5th, 1920.Mrs. Carpenter originally came from Lincoln County, N. C., in 1842, and has resided in Cherokee County ever since, and is now nearing the century mark in years.On the occasion of this celebration, all of her children were living and present. They are as follows:Mrs. H. L. Bass, of Texas; Mrs. M. E. Cagle, of Pickens County, Ga., and T. J. Carpenter, of Cherokee County.Of the twenty-three grandchildren, seven were present, and of the sixty-four great-grandchildren, eleven were present. There are three great-great, grandchildren. Five generations, in all totaling 93 mmbers living at the time of the celebration.Besides the members of the Carpenter family present there were about seventy-five neighbors and friends, among whom were Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Jones, of Canton; Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Lattimer, Sr., of Wood-stock; Esq. J. C. B. Rhyme and Miss Alice Smith, of Waleska; Mr. J.‘ C. Tuylor and family, of Ball Ground; Mr. A. Edwards, Mr. Ilenry Mitchell and family, Dr. R. M. Moore and family, of Waleska; Mr. J. M. Reinhardt, Mr. J. A. Moore and family, the Misses White, Mrs. W. A. Bearden and M. B. Sams, of Waleska.Under the great oak tree that occupies a comer In Mr. Carpenter's front yard and that has a spread of about 80 feet, the relatives and friends sat and conversed and enjoyed the splendid fellowship of the occa* sion.At the noon hour the table was prepared and a sumptuous dinner wasenjoyed by all.What a blessing to have relatives and friends to enjoy and to share with us our joys as well as our sorrows.Praying God’s blessings upon Mrs. Carpenter and her family, the guestsdeparted, having thoroughly enjoyed the ocvUfiorii-
