A LABOR TICKETThere Is a Strong Likelihood That One Will Be Placed in the Field This Fall.The Chicago Federation of Labor Decides to Go Into Politics With a Party of Its Own.The Question Is Still Being Debated as to Whether It Will Ally Itself With the Socialists or Keep Independent.Whatever the Decision on That Point It Has Been Decided to Take a Firm Stand For Labor Nominees By Themselves.A now force ha* appeared In (oral politic* and what effect It will have on the old partle* remain* to be seen.The Chicago Federation of Labor ha* decided to *upport a ticket at the polls which will bear Ita own label.A referendum vote la to be taken to decide whether tbta ticket will be the Boclallst ticket or a ticket chosen by the Federation Itself.The subject cume up at last Sun-d Financial World.day’s meeting of the Federation of Labor In the report of the committee on political action.This report recommended an Independent labor party but the Boclallst* present demanded that the ticket of the Boclallst party be endorsed.Delegate George Koop of the Printers' union made two speeches In the interest of the Socialist party. For this he was called down by Socialist delegates of the Painters' union.who feared that the efTect of Koop's oratory would queer their party with the delegates.The question finally was adopted In this form:Shall organized labor Indorse and co-operate with the Socialist parly?Shall organized labor form an Independent political party?Will you abide by the majority vote given on these questions?This wuh made a substitute for the report of the committee and will be sent to the 260,onn trade* unionist* In Cook county for a vote. The unions were given sixty duys In wbieh to take the vote and make the returns to the ollleers of the federation. A campaign of specchmitklng will he Hturtcd at once by the Socialist* and antl-SoclallHts.Copie* of the committee* report, containing the platform” of the proposed Independent party, will be*ent out with tho ballot*. It wa* decided to send out copies of the Socialist* party platform If the party manager* will furnish the required number.Following ure the principal planks in the platform of the proposed labor party, a* recommended by the committee:Direct primary nomination*.Election of United States senators by direct vote of the people.Old uge and disability pension laws. Employer*' liability law.Election by the people of the member* of the Chicago bourd of education.Public ownership of all public utilities.Prohibition of guinbllng in stockH and necessaries or life.All municipal, state, and federalwork to be done direct instead of by contract.Abolition of the fee system In public office?.Initiative, referendum, and recall.
