Rebuilding After the Big Fire of Last Spring. AMESBURY, Aug 12—It is with much pleasure that the citizens of this place learn that George FP. Wilman has de cided to rebuild a substantial brick block on the site of the handsome Ba han block destroyed by the large fire of March 18. The entire third floor will be planned and finished for the use of the several Masonic organizations. The new building will also contain an opera house, as the owners of the fine brick theater which was destroyed have con cluded not to rebuild. The Rand-Adams block opposite is nearing completion and it is a great im ply over the building which was estroyed by the fire of last spring. It is to be hoped that work of rebuilding the Episcopal church will begin soon, as the chtizens of this place are desirous of seeing the old ruins replaced with sub stantial buildings. Mrs Sarah M. Cross observed her 88th birthday at the home of her daughter, Mrs George H. Briggs, Sennenst, wednesday. Many triends called during the day. She was one of the early set tlers of northern Maine and distinctly remembers the entertaining of Rufus King, the first governor of state, at her home. She has resided with her daughter here for the past 20 years. The state highway surveyors have completed this week the work of sur veying the Pond Hills road, preparatory to aiding a section of state highway here this fall. Miss Josephine H. Carr, a graduate of the Salem normal school, class 99, and also a graduate of the local high school, has been appointed a teacher at the Irving building at Allens corner to suc ceed Miss Mabel Lunt, who has re signed to accept a position at Orange. he annual outing of the members of hogel and track 1 is being held at Coun try pond today. A chicken chowder is to be served during the afternoon. Mrs Oscar Wentzel and son, Paul Wentzel, of Danbury, Conn, are visiting the family of Otto Kranz at the ferry. Miss Carrie A. Robbins, an employe or the government printing office at Wash ington, is at her home here for a month's vacation. Carl C. Chipman and Seth Clark Jr have gone to Squirrel Island, Me, for a two weeks’ vacation. The Methodist secret will again unite with the Mainst Congregational society tomorrow. In the absence of the two pastors, Rev Lee W. Beattie, peatoe of the Presbyterian church at fankato, Minn, will preach. Rev Mr Deetz of the Methodist church is pass ing his vacation with his wife at Hed ding campground at East Epping, NH, and Rev Mr Richmond of the Mainst church is with his family at Lower Gilmanton, NH. Mrs Annie May, wife of Dr Edmund D. Henderson, who died at her home, 54 Elmoat, Tuesday afternoon, aged 29, was buried at the St Joseph cemetery SeUesy merging. Funeral services were held at the St Joseph's Catholic church. Miss Myra R. Robinson of Philadel hia is visiting the familly of Charlies A. Boyd at the Point.
