Jront A watter Election time has come again for Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) and for the first time in a dozen years, Sydney Garrioch will not be volved Garrioch served as Grand Chief for MKO for six years, but will not be seeking re-election when votes are cast on September 2nd. Previously, Garrioch had served an additional six years as the MKO Vice Chief. In Garrioch’s place, four different candidates have stepped forward to vie for the honor. Included in that list are Jim Tobacco of Masakahiken Cree Nation, commonly known as Moose Lake, and William Elvis Thomas of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, or Nelson House Tobacco and Thomas are up against two candidates from Garden Hill First Nation, David Harper and Brennan Manoakeesick. Garrioch last month anounced he would be running federally, accepting the Churchill Riding nomination for the Liberal party trying his hand at f sor at MKO as Grand Chief.
