PeopleRCA will release new Elvis songsBy The Associated PressTUPELO, Miss. - Elvis Presley fans are in store for a real treat this week.RCA Records will release a set of three compact discs or cassette tapes containing 50 songs recorded by the “King of Rock ’n’ Roll” during the ’60s, 48 of which have not been released before.Don Warded, national director of catalog music for RCA Records, was in Tupelo over the weekend for his fifth Elvis Week visit, and he made the announcement before a crowd of hundreds of Elvis Presley fans.Wardell, who won a Grammy award for his work restoring Jimmy Dorsey-Frank Sinatra recordings, said the songs are different takes on songs Presley fans already know.Some of the takes were found in November in the vaults of 20th Century Fox studios by a researcher, Wardell said.The first disc contains the songs found in the Hollywood studio, which are from Presley’s movies, Wardell said It includes a song never heard before called “Black Star,” the original title for the movie “Flaming Star.The second disc is full of recordings made in Nashville, Tenn , and the third disc contains songs from a concert Presley did in Las Vegas in 1969“If you’re an enthusiast, you won’t have versions of these songs, Wardell said. “People write asking for unreleased material. This will give them what they’re asking for.”Also included with the discs is an 18-page booklet of Elvis photos and background information on the songs, including take numbers and recording dates, Wardell said.Other plans for keeping Elvis’ music alive include plans to release in digital format all Elvis' recordings by 1995 The process involves getting rid of the “fake” stereo sound from the songs.All of the distortion and hiss will be gone from the music when it is put on compact disc, Wardell said.Elvis is an American phenomenon, Wardell said. “There are three icons from the ’50s whose popularity continues to grow. That is Elvis, James Dean and Marilyn Monroe.
