Family HistoriesSturtz ...Noah Sturtz, one of the substantial farmers and citizens of Highland township, was born in Somerset County. Pennsylvania August 26. 1844. a son of John and Rebecca (Beal) Sturtz. His father was born In Pennsylvania in 1800 and died in 1869, and his mother was born in 1805 and died in 1875. They lived and died in their native state. Of their 14 children, none survive now.Mr. Sturtz received a common school education and was reared on a farm. He remained with his parents until he was 21 years old. then began farming for himself and was married in 1869 on Jan. 24th to Eliza Baker, who was born in Somerset County. Pennsylvania on April 3.1845. She was a daughter of Beniamin and Lydia Kendall Baker, both natives of Penn, where they died.Mr. and Mrs. Noah Sturtz were parents of nine children, two of whom survive now namely—Charles Sturtz. City. Mo., and Mrs. Lee Par-, who lives on the homestead I in. Highland township.Hr. and Mrs. Noah Sturtz moved to: Iowa In 1878 settling on 80 acres of wild land part of the present home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Parmenter.Their first home was a very humble dwelling of only two rooms where they and their five children born in Pennsylvania, lived. Four more children were born in Iowa. Their children were Laura Sturtz, born Oct. 0. 1870. died Oct 2. 1935. She married Jake Dunbar June 14, 1894 and moved to Gladbrook where she lived the rest of her life. They were the parents of 2 children — Fern Dunbar, who married John J..Lynch on Oct. 14, 1919 and moved to the farm they purchased and where! they live now. Their children are Marjorie Lynch, married to Russell Cling an living in Des Moines, also the parents of 2 children, Cynthia Ann and Jeffrey Reid Clingan. Mr. and Mrs. Lynch’s son Dean lives with his parents and farms, since returning from service overseas. Floyd Dunbar lives in Kingston. Washington, is married and has a daughter Mary.The other children of Noah Sturtz are: John Sturtz. who died in 1941 at Toledo; Frank Sturtz. who died in 1944 at Montour; Myra Sturtz. who died in 1945 at Portland, Ore.; Fred Sturtz, Who died in 1947 near Laurel; Ira Sturtz. who died in 1954 at Birmingham. Ala.; Clarence Sturtz, who died many years ago at the age of 19 years; Charles Sturtz. living in Kansas City, Mo.; Dora Sturtz Pamen-ter, living south of Montour.Mr. and Mrs. Noah Sturtz acquired 240 acres in Highland township during their years of farming.‘ Mrs. Noah Sturtz died Dec.' 12, 1821.
