. Wynn Fredericks, of the Clin ton Club, Lock Haven, became the 1940 Central Counties Golf Associa tion champion, winning from Bud Wilson, of Tyrone, at the 20th hole in the finals at the Clinton course yesterday afternoon. Fredericks, who is football and bas ketball coach at Lock Haven State Teachers College, had eliminated the defending champion, Walter Swoope, of Clearfield, three and two in the semi-finals earlier in the day. He has won the championship once before. Joe Lee, whom Swoope defeated in the first round Saturday, and Dent. Holden, were the only Clearfield golf ers to reach the finals but both were defeated there. Lee, in the first bracket, lost to Hugh Quigley, of Nittany Club, Belle fonte, for the beaten eight champion ship. Holden lost to Tom Lee, of Phil ipsburg, for the beaten eight title in the second bracket. Eight Clearfield golfers entered the tournament: Swoope, Lee, Holden, H. L. Baker, Sol Robinson, K. J. Nichol son, L. P. Geynet, and J. M. Gallaher. Many other local golfers attended the tournament and returned with en thusiastic reports that it was one of the best tournaments ever, held by the Central Counties Association. One hundred entered the tournament.
