GIRL’S LEGFLOATS ASHOREAT CEDAR LAKEShorn Off Body by Boat’s Propeller; Member Is Found[SPECIAL TO THE TIMES] CROWN POINT, Ind., Aug-. 12.— After lying at the bottom of Cedar Lake for more than a week, the left leg of Miss Violet Lockwood of Chicago who was maimed in a water accident Sunday, August 3, floated ashore this morning.Guests of the Binyon hotel, noticing a floating object as they sat on the veranda this morning, curiously watched it drift against the boat pier and then were horrified to find it was a human leg.The leg was shorn off by a speedboat propellor blade after Miss Lockwood had fallen overboard when the boat made a sharp turn at the Mo non pier. It was first thought that she was injured as she was being dragged aboard, but the investigation led to the belief that the boat had passed over her and that she had swum around for five minutes, awaiting rescue without knowing the seriousness of her injury. As she was being helped into the boat she complained that her left foot hurt. But foot and leg were gone. The impression had prevailed that the mutilated limb had been taken to Mercy hospital, Gary, with the girl and no search had b'een made for it.Sheriff Kyle today made arrangements for burial of the leg. Miss Lockwood is said to be gaining strength rapidly at the hospital.ITir
