L. Allgood, a street jcar conductor.The guard w'as assembled earlywhen the police received word that jseveral hundred persons had gather-ed in Central City park and wereplanning an attack on the countyjail. Later reports said, however,;that the crowd had dispersed withoutmaking any sort of demonstration.FEAR RACE RIOTThe precautionary steps follow-1 ed a day of excitement in Macon and uneasiness on the part of the author- j ities, who expressed fears of a serious race clash growing out of the lynching at Holton, near here, of John Glover, charged with the murder of Deputy Sheriff Walter C. Byrd. Glover was taken from an Atlanta train at Griffin and shot to death.WILL PROBE LYNCHING Judge W. E. H. Searcy of the Monroe circuit announced that he would called a special session of the grand jury at Forsyth for the fourth Monday in August to investigate the lynching of Glover.
