Ray I. PhillipsHOUTZDALE — Funeral services for Ray Ivan Phillips, 87, of Parsonville, Houtzdale RD, will be held at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale, on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at noon, with the Rev. Ernest E. Simmers officiating.Mr. Phillips died Sunday, Aug. 9, at his residenceInterment will be at Sanborn Cemetery, Sanborn.Friends will be received Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the hour of services.Born June 3, 1922, at Osceola Mills, he was a son of Earnest Vaughn and May (Kephart) Phillips.He was Christian by faith.Mr. Phillips was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Fifth Infantry Division at the Normandy Invasion. While in the U.S. Army, he received a Purple Heart with an oak leaf cluster and three Bronze Stars of Valor.He was a heavy equipment operator by trade for various operations in the community, and he retired from Albert Contracting.On March 15,1946, he wed Vera (Albright) Phillips, who survives.Also surviving are three children, Diane Refalsky and her husband, Bob, of Philipsburg, Sharon Mclntire and her husband, Don, and Dean Phillips and his wife, Elaine, all of Houtzdale; nine grandchildren, Rob Refalsky of Hawk Run, Randy Refalsky of Philipsburg, Teena Refalsky of Morrisdale, Renee Kanouff of Houtzdale, Amy Criscitello of Ginter, Shawn Mclntire, Wendy Maines of Bigans Road, Md., Bridget Martin of Clearfield, and Jeremy Phillips of Houtzdale.Three sisters, Betty Hileman and husband, Blair, and Nora Ruckinger and husband, Don, all of Altoona, and Dorthy Farnsworth of Florida; and three brothers, Donald Phillips, Richard Phillips and Gary Phillips, also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Dora, Mariam Kennedy and Luella Hicks; and four brothers, William, Lee, Vaugh Thomas and Robert.
