800 West and 400 south. It was an old one room school house where all grades were taught. She quit teaching when she married Troy C. Quinn at age 20. Their first child, Doyle, died when he was less than 2 weeks old. Troy and Georgia Quinn set up house on North Washingon street in Delphi. Her parents lived in the house right behind them. Together they ran the Loy Roofing company. In the meantime, Georgia bore three more sons: Bob, Gerald, and Dick. George Loy died in 1932 and Troy Quinn found himself running the Loy Roofing company. And then, four years later, Troy was dead too. He was killed by a freight train while travelling to a roofing job, on what was called the crooked road to Camden. It was 1936 and Georgia Quinn was a young widow(she never would marry again). She had three boys that she had to raise by herself and she was determined that they'd be brought up right. And Mrs. Quinn had to take over at the roofing company herself, she had the responsibility of caring for her mother who became sick in bed, and then she still had three sons that she had to raise. But Georgia Quinn was tough. She made it. Low Roofing company was a success. She kept her mother out of nursing homes. And she sent her three sons to cllege. On Mrs. Quinn's birthday in 1954, a major fire severely damaged several businesses on West Main street in Delphi. It also left Georgia homeless as it had hearly gutted her place. Many of her lifelong possessions were gone forever. But she rebuilt her building and she moved back in. And not long after, she decided she was going to paint, that she was going to be an artist. In 1960, Georgia Quinn organized the Delphi Art Club. She was its first president. She was a good artist and she painted many many works. She has sold more than 300 paintings to people in 15 states. And she has given away dozens more to family and friends. Many of her oil paintings are of familiar scenes around Delphi and Carroll County. She especially likes to paint water scenes and so many of her best paintings are along the Wabash, the Tippecanoe, and Deer Creek. She is very proud of the prizes she has recieved over the years at art shows. She is also proud of her three sons who are successful themselves. Bob Quinn, her oldest son, owns and operates the Log Roofing company in Delphi today.Gerald, her second son, is a psychologist in Springfield, Ohio. Dick, her youngest son has done quite well with Caterpillar in Peoria, Ill. She has eight grandchildren who are spread all across the United States. Jim lives in Philadelphia and Gary lives in Seattle. Others at points between. Bruce Quinn is her only grandchild who lives in Delphi. For the past 4 years, he has been living with Mrs. Quinn, making it possible for her to keep and manage her home. Currently, Georgia Quinn is very ill at Home Hospital in Lafayette. However, she says she is determined that she is going to recover and return to Bruce and her home on Delphi’s south hill once again.
