First appearance of knights of the Ku Klux Klan in Montrose was made at about 8:30 Thursday evening, when two cars, containing 10 robed Klansmen, drove into the city for the brief stop. The Klan members left their care on the main street of Montrose and paraded for a few minutes about the business section of the village. They then entered an ice cream parlor and tooc refreshments. No speeches or other demonstrations were at tempted. Although they were robed and capped in white, the Klansmen did not wear masks, and seemed to make no effort to hide their identity. In spite of this fact none of them were recognized by Montrose residents. After spending a few minutes in the ice cream parlor they again re entered their cars and left as silently as they came. That the Klansmen were from Fort Madison or some other nearby city is considered certain. They were seen just south of this city by local motorists later in the evening, and made their entrance into Mont rose over the Fort Madison road. Montrose is agog with speculation concerning the visit of the Klan, and many conjectures were offered today as to the purpose of the demonstration.
