The following correspondence appears in the same paper of July 25 th after the' examination:Leesburg, July 22, 1867.Editor Mining News-—Dear Sir:— The nndctsigned deem it a duty they owe to the living and the dead to cor-lect the leports published in tbc last two issues of your paper, concerning the fatal affray which saddened the : hearts of a whole community and re- ; suited in the death of a well known and and icspeetcd citizen, A. J. Johnston. The paitiailara as detailed before the Coroner's iu^ucst and committing magj istrato, are as follows:About seven o’clock P. 31., P. McMa-nut, and deceased bad some words about the purchase of a lot of liquors, which resulted in both parties drawing pistols j deceased fust-drawing, and using some ; very harsh epithets, such as, “You arc ' a damned Irish son of a bitch.” The night watchman, the justice of the peace and friends interfered, when McManus went lioine. Deceased left his place and went around town to the saloons and several stores, at neaily 1 every one of which he uttered language and tlueata against McManus which should not be repeated except in a court -of justice. He icpealedly declared that he would “kill tho red mouthed son of a hitch on eight, before he would go to bed,” before lie slept,” c, deckmug that he was prepared and intended to do it Deceased's friends did all in thrir power to pacify him, to gut him to go home, to defer the difficulty till morning; hut deceased seemed so determined that his friends - left him. He then started in the di-■ rection of his saloon, which almost adjoins McMauus* place of business. Deceased took his position about thirty feet from the fiout of McManus’ place, being directly in tho position to inter-! cept McMauus as ho might go to his sleeping room. Deceased remained there some half or three-quarters of an hour, when McManus catne out ou the sidewalk in front of his door. Deceas-. ed advanced three or four steps, when McManus also advanced j they clenched, a shot was fired, they fought down ! by McManus’ place, wben they became separated. Deceased ran down the r street some twelve or fourteen yaids,| falling upon some projecting rocks, ’ I leaving blood upon tbem—McManus -;* after and running over him and a littlo ; ’ beyond, allot, missing him and then ran ; ’ away. Deceased did not not speak ; , after falling; died inalautly. The Cor*[ oner's Jury found that deceased came : I to his death from a blow or blows of a J [ club or some weapon in the hands of . p P.
