Voter Turnout Light As Races Are DecidedVoter turnout was described as being light in last Tuesday’s primary election in Marion County. However, the end result saw the development of some tight races and close victories, while' in other i cases there were the ex-* pected victories by sometimes, wide margins.Lola Johnston was unopposed on the i Republican ticket forCounty Auditor gathering 1300 votes. A close race developed on the Democratic ticket for the office of County Auditor between Jack Carpenter and incumbent Ralph De Cook. De Cook edged out , Carpenter by a total of 65 votes, 1151 to 1086. Thus the* November elections will*see Johnston vs. De Cook \ seeking the voters choicefor the office of County Auditor.Paul Rees, Clerk of Court, was unopposed in his bid for the opportunity for re-election in November. Running on the Republican ticket Rees gathered in 1462 votes.For the office of Sheriff, Republican Cleo Bennett was unopposed. He will be [ up against incumbent LeeShives in the November general elections. Shiveswon his primary battle overwhelmingly against Democratic hopeful James Mitchell.For the office of County Attorney Warren Reiter was unopposed on the Democratic ticket receiving 1381 votes.Voters pretty much had their minds made up in voting for the Board of Supervisors selecting two from both the Republican and Democratic ticket to run in November. These four candidates will be seeking two seats on the Board, one vacated by Paul Bandstra, with Harvey Sweem seeking re-election to his seat on the Board.Republican candidates for Board of Supervisors were Jim Goff, Raymond Orr, John TerLouw, and Henry Rooda. Voters selected TerLouw and Rooda by margins of about 200-300 votes.Democratic hopefuls were Harold De Zwarte, Richard Dunkin, Marion Van den Baard, and Harvey Sweem.
