Searchers Have Little Hope For 2 Girls Lost In DesertCAREFREE (AP) — Searchers said Saturday they have almost given up hope for two young girls missing in the parched desert area near here for four days.Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies called, a temporary halt to the search Saturday afternoon following the discovery that apurse helongong to Mrs. Ann Gibbs, 51, may have been pilfered by civilian searchers and then discarded in another. area.. The bodies of Mrs. Gibbs and two of her grandchildren,* Darlene Ong, 12, and Seotty Ong, 10, were found several miles from where their car became stuck in a sandy wash Wednesday. Searchers were seeking Michelle Ong, 8, and Linda Dieino,. 10. The group had started on a camping trip.Searchers began their hunt Thursday after Bud Gibbs, 55, husband of Mrs. Gibbs, hiked from the automobile to Carefree to obtain help. He arrived in Carefree Wednesday night and telephoned a relative about their plight but did not return until Thursday because the relative’s car was inoperative.Mrs. Gibbs’ purse was discovered about four miles beyond the spot where her body was found; leading searchers to believe the two missing girls might have carried it as they moved on toward the Verde River.. But Saturday afternoon deputies said they learned that $70 which had been in the purse was missing. They said two members of a. civilian search and rescue group, not affiliated with any governmental agency, were being questioned about the purse.
