WOMAN PLUNGES INTO MINE SHAFTCOMMITTS SUICIDE WHILE MENTALLY DERANGED AS WATCH MAN SHOUTS WARNINGMrs. Angelo Ferroni of Dal/ell. 47 \ears of age, committed suicide at one o’clock Tuesday morning, by plunging down the No. 5 shaft of the Spring Valley Coal company at l)al/ell, a distance of 400 tcet. 1 he woman was mentally deranged and was bent, on *elf-destruction.Albert Cartwright, night watchman at the mine, Raw the woman inside the railing at the top of the pit, holding on with her hands to the timbers and her feet hanging down the shaft. Ho shouted a warning just as the woman let go and plunged down the imue shait. He immediately notified the engineer and also rushed to the Me Donal 1 Iioine and notified the Coal Company •officials. The body was found in the sump, horribly mangled.The husband missed his wife from the home shortly after 12:30. He suspected a suicide attempt and instituted a hurried search. He went to the mine just in time to meet the cage as it brought the body of his wife to the surface.Mrs. Ferroni’s suicide marked her second attempt at self-destruction. ••Several months ago she jumped in front of a passenger train on the Northwestern railroad at DaL/.ell, but escaped death by a miracle when she rolled underneath the locomotive anl her body lodged between the engine and ■tender in such a way that she escaped death, recovering later at St. Margaret’s hospital.The woman is said to have been mentally unsound for some time. One year ago she was committed to the asylum but returned home a month later. The family then lived at Standard but returned to Dal/ell alter her release.Surviving are tlie husband and seven children, ranging in age from 7 to 20 years and a brother Deodali Mini, of Dalzell. The funeral was held Wednesday morning and interment was made in the Ladd cemetery’.An inquest was held by Coroner Malm on Tuesday and a verdict of suicide rendered.
