Mr. bterrott received a large vote, and came near being elected. As to harbor master, Mr. Cbas. Joues, present incumbent was appointed. Cupt. Gilbert bad n large petition asking hie appointment, aud probably would have received the office bud it not been for the fact, us alleged by the Mayor, that he was employed by a shipping firm, and the appointment might have beon criticized asa favor to that firm. However, Mr. Joues is a capable officer, aud a new appointment, had oue bee a made, would hate been merely rotating honors. Capt. Gilbert possessed every qualification necessary for a good harbor master.
