Services held for Rev. James R. HaleyA concelebrated Pontifical Mass was held Friday at Guardian Angel Church in Mt. Washington for Rev. James R. Haley, 80, who died at Fransiscan Terrace Tuesday.Fr. Haley had been pastor of GuardianAngel Church from 1960 to 1968, during whichtime he was instrumental in building present church.The original church was built in 1892 on land owned by George Washington. Only 40 Catholic families lived in Mt. Washington atthat time.Fr. Haley was a graduate of theUniversity of Dayton, and St. Gregory and St. Mary seminaries in Cincinnati. He wasordained in 1928.He taught at Elder High School and later at St. Mary Seminary.Prior to msREV. JAMES R. HALEYpastorhood at Guardian Angel, Father Haley was pastor at Resurrection in Dayton, St. Veronica in Hamilton and St. Louis in Owensville.Fr. Haley left Guardian Angel parish in to become pastor of St. Peter Church, New Richmond, where he remained until his retirement in 1972.While there, he helped build the present church.Fr. Haley celebrated his 50th Jubilee (anniversary of his ordination) on June 9 ofthis year with several friends at the Fransiscan Terrace.“He had a very pleasing personality and made many friends,” said Msgr. Piening, pastor at Guardian Angel.One church member added, “Fr. Haley hada great sense of humor. He will be missed by many,”Archbishop Joseph L. Bernadin con-celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial.Fr. Haley is survived by three cousins.
