three to ten scouts; and here you see true camp life.In a grotto, not far from headquarters, are held the campfires and here also the initiation” exercises are pulled off. At the opposite end of the groundsare the mess tent, the kitchen and the storerooms. The mess tent is on a bluff immediately over the river on the north shore of the island.Last year all the water used for drinking and cooking had to be carried from the mainland, but this year a pump has been installed. 1 his convenience is greatly appreciated by the boys.1 he distance around the island is about two miles. It is partly wooded, with some underbrush, but in the centre there is a large opening, in which is the baseball diamond, the running track, space for high and broad jumping, pole vaulting, etc.I he canal, on the Pennsylvania side, provides a most desirable swimming hole, with a convenient bridge for plain and fancy diving. At this point in the canal there are eight feet of water.Every day there are contests ofr . t , r r tvarying character and the boys enter them with the utmost enthusiasm. Prize medals are frequently awarded. Each boy has certain duties to perform, 011 specific days, while in camp.Religious exercises are duly observed.
