He wan a son of Fr-inc.s Preston Blair* Sr., and a brot .er of Gen. Frank P Blair, who ran on the Democratic National ticket with Seymour id lHfVi Hie father was born at Abingdon, Ya_, In 1100. He resided for eome years In Kentucky, and in 1810 began to edit the Washington Olob\ und became lie friend and confidential adv ser of Jackson. His mother was the daughter of Nathaniel Glt;st .a companion of Washington on the Duciuesne expedition.
