McCurry in the chair, and J. F. Croft, Secretary pro. tern.It was moved by A. G. McCurry, Esq., that the delegates chosen in pursuance of resolutions passed at last meeting, proceed to nominate a candidate to represent Hartcounty in the next Legislature. Carried.The roll of districts being called, the following names were handed in as delegates:1112th. John 15. Benson, John Peek, LeeLinder, W. II. Stephenson, A. G. McCurry.1113th. A. S. Turner* J. A. McGarity, P. II. Bowers, F. B. Cunningham, D. P. Brown.1114th. R. E. Sadler, J. D. Brown, Elijah Chapman, \V. C. Gary, Thomas N. McMullan.1115th. A. M. Ayers, John Linder, John Jackson, John Welden, Asa D. Chandler. 1116th. No delegates chosen.1117th. S. C. Fisher, T. T. Holbrook, C. S. Webb, Jell*. Holland, John Holland.1118th. Win. Jones, E. J. Alford.On account of irregularity in the selection of the Reed delegates, it was moved l»y James Alford that the delegation from Reed Creek be rejected by the party. Said motion was opposed on the ground that the legality of the election of the Reed Creek delegates would be a question lor the consideration of the entire delegation when convened in private session. After considerable discussion on the part of Rev. Calvin Sanders, John II. Skelton, Esq., and others, for the motion, and Rev. 15. Thornton, A. G. McCurry, and others, against it, the motion was lost.It was then moved by John II. Skelton, Esq., that the nomination be postponed until the first. Tuesday in September, and new primary elections be held.After much discussion, John H. Skelton, Esq., withdrew his motion, at the same time announcing that he withdrew from the Convention.While the roll of districts was again called, the delegates from the respective districts retired to a private room for the purpose of proceeding with the nomination.In the nominating bodv were twentv-• * • •nine delegates, there being some absentees, and four of the delegat s from the 1119th district refusing to participate after the withdrawal of J. II. Skelton, Esq.Captain John Peek was elected Chairman, and Thos. N. McMullan Secretary. On motion of John 15. Benson the Reed Creek delegates were admitted.P. P. Proffitt, Esq., move-1 that the one delegate present from the 1119th district cast the full vote. Alter discussion, lost.On motion of A. S. Turner, the two-thirds rule was adopted.On motion of Lee Linden, the Convention proceeded to nominate by ballot.The first ballot was as follows: F. BHodges, 15; J. F. Craft, 11 ; John II. McCurry, Esq., the nomination was made unanimous.The delegation having rejxnled the result of their action, n committee of three were appointed to wait on Mr. Benson and conduct him to the hall.
