Destructive Fibb.—Yesterday morning, between the boars of six and seven o’clock, a fire broke oat on the pre raises of Mr. J. Simmons, Windmill street, Cornwall road, Lambeth. Mr. Simmons carries on the trade of lucifer match manufacturer. It appeared that the fire originated j in the workshop, and was occasioned by a work boy,, who accidentally let fall a match box opon some ignitahie materials, which instantly took fire, and communicated the fiames to the other combustibles in the room. The West of England engine was almost immediately on the spot, and a plentiful supply of water having been obtained, the devouring element was prevented from extending Sts ravages beyond the premises where it originated, which, together with the property they contained, were entirely destroyed. We understand tbt Mr. Simmons is not insured.Partial Destruction of Darby's Firs Work Factory by Fire.—At half past twelve o'clock yesterday morning, a dreadful explosieo took place at Darby's factory, Regent street, Lambeth. The whole neighbourhood, ef cou se, were endeavouring to ascertain the cause, when the flames from the workshop in the gardens were discovered. Me* sengers were despatched for the engines, and in a few minutes those belonging to the brigade from Waterloo road, the West of England, parish, and more distant stations arrived, by which time the shops were destroyed. The engine* were well worked, and the fire having been got under by a quarter pa*t one, superintendent Rutt and inspector Carter found one of the men in the garden, dreadfully bnrnt about the arms and face. Hia companions procured a cab, and he was instantly taken to the hospital, with slight hopes of recovery. A numerous mob assembled, but the police kept them back out of the way of the firemen, who bad a good and ready supply of water. The loss is very great in amount, and of course not insured.
