Volunteers who have con tributed approximately 2642 years to the Gila General Hos pital Candy Stripers program were recognized Monday with awards at an ice cream social at the hospital cafeteria. TRANSLATED into a minimum wage contribution this time amounts to $5,644.20 all of which indicates that “happiness thin summer was working as a Candy Striper at Gila General.” Twenty high school girls and two pre-medical students, Pat rick Bays and Marguerite Loughran, have been very helpful in Central Supply. Long-term unit including recreation and personal care, X-Ray, physical therapy, washing and sterilizing surgi cal instruments besides house keeping and food and water dispensing. Mrs. Jean Noel, in-service coordinator; Miss Lovetts, Baus, C-Unit supervisor, and the nurseg have been pleased with the energy and capabilities these volunteers have shown. Mrs. Elaine Moore and Mra Helen Crock ett who have been in charge of the summer program have been impressed with their dependability and enthusiasm. All the Candy Stripers who have worked 50 hours received a pin and those who have worked 100 hours received a pin and a badge. Receiving awards were Susan Aeeves, Maria Burke, Catherine Carilo, Lorri Hale, Jeanni Heas, Cindy Heidt, Barbara Lemmer, Bertara Loew, Dar lene Lougee, Patti Loyd, Vir ginie Mawson, Audrey McCray, Tammy McCray, Becky Palmer, Teresa Sanchez, Sheres Scott, Henee Sellars, Connie Stringer and Cheri Wilson. The parents of the volunteers were invited to attend the event. Auxiliary members who helped with the morning office routine were Ethel Aiello, Helen Crockett, Evelyn Franco, Pat Hatmsker, Gladys Martindale, Elaine Moore, Icy Nail, Opal Suomela, Reba Walker and Elizabeth Williamson. Fifteen members attended the Junior Volunteer Conven tion in Phoenix July 15th. Th highlight of the meeting was a demonstration of the Heim lich maneuver, a life saving technique to use on persons who are choking victims. This rescue operation was demon strated at the Awards Night by two of the Candy Stripers. TEN MEMBERS partici pated in the disaster drill July 17. Maria Burke, Larri Hate, Jeanni Hess, Cindy Heidt, Barbara Lemmer, Barbara Loew, Darlene Lougee, Vir ginis Mawson, Audrey McCray, Tammy McCray, Becky Palmer, Teresa Sanchez, Sheree Lots, Connie Stringer and Cheri Wilson sexued the nurses, doctors,and technicians by acting the roles of victim- needing treatment.
