Death of Hx-PreMdent Van Baren.Ex-President Marlin Vran Buren died at his residence nt Kinderhook, on Friday of Inst week, at the advanced age of 79 years. Mr. Van Burnt commenced his public career as Surrogate id the County of Columbia in 1S08. In 1812 he was elected to the Slate Senate, and from that time he continued to hold important public positions until 1830, he was elected President of the United Stales. In 1840 he was re nominated, but was defeated, and retired to private life. In 1844, when the project of annexing Texas was under consideration, lie could have secured the nomination by the Democracy by announcing himself in favor of the project; but much to his credit, lie came out with a letter strongly opposed to it, and consequently Mr. Polk was nominated. In 1848, parlies, especially in New \ork, had become much cut Up, and at the memorable Buffalo Convention he was nominated as a third candidate against Gen. Cass and Gen. Taylor. Since that time Mr. Van Bu-ren has acted with the Democratic organization in all its meandering*, lie supported Mr. Pierce in 1862, Buchanan in 1856 ami Brockenridge in 1860. He has, however, favored a vigorous prosecution of the present war against the rebellion.
