LANE SEMINARY.We did not know that Lane Seminary was a theological institution or perhaps we should n*t have made the allusion to it wc did in our paper week before last, not because •uch institutions can, of right, claim on ex. cmption when they are emenable to censure; but because we would have known that by doing as we did, we would incur the most unrelenting hostility of its friends, whether they . ^believed us honest in our opinions or not. In. 'deed we would almost as soon thrust our hands •into a hornet’s nest as to put our pen to paper •on such an all exciting subject. In addition to this, wc would not willingly injure an institution calculated to exercise a moral influence in the community. Wc thought, however, that the remark in our last wo'uhi have made ample nnfbnds for any injustice we may,inadvertently, have done the institution, and satisfied the most fastidious of its friends; but it appears we were mistaken. With some it has only added fnej to the flame which horned in their indignant bosoms, and their censures have been poured upon us in a very unsparing manner. 'I hey appear to think we have been influenced by the friends of another institution we could name, •but this is a mistake. Whatever influence the friends of that institution may have wished to acquire over us, they have never attempted to 'exercise any. The president, Dr. Beecher, •ays it is the determination of the faculty, in case the students belonging to the society should 'conduct themselves with any imprudence, to expel them promptly fr mthc institution. Wc hope, however, that aril will now be satisfied that we entertain no feelings of hostility towards the Seminary re fcrred to, and that wc have made all the rcpa* ration in osr power that we can honorably snake.
