HOUSTON (AP) — The execu tive director of the National As sociation for the Advancement of Colored People joined a pick et line here briefly Monday. Roy Wilkins paraded with the pickets at the Houston school administration hes. They seek greater em is on Negro history in school courses. Wilkins ,in Houston to speak to the National Dental Associa tion, joined the picket line for a a before going to his hotel. The Rev. Anderson Davis, head of the local NAACP chap ter, said Negro pupils will boy cott Houston schools in Septem er Negroes to American life. Davis said the NAACP had the support of other civil rights groups for the boycott. School Board President Bob Eckels called the pickets a “troublemaking endeavor” and was criticized by Wilkins for the remark. “I am sorry that the president of the school board doesn’t know American history,’’ Wilkins said. “Picketing is a peaceful, orderly and informative way of airing grievances.”’ Eckels said the board will ap point a committee to hear the saints of the NAACP. The NAACP had asked a hearing be fore the entre board. Davis said the NAACP would not be satisfied with greater em phasis on the Negro’s role in the political history of the na tion. He said the group would insist on inclusion of the Negro’s contributions to literature, sci ence and the arts. Wilkins assailed the school board's freedom of choice in tegration plan, under which any student may attend any school in the district. He called the ‘freedom choice” system unworkable for members of minority groups.
