Compulsory closing of butcher hops on ‘Saturday mornings ‘All be discussed at a conference mm Wednesday between repre entatives of the Meat and Alied ‘vades' Federation and the Meat Industry Employees’ Union. ‘The union has asked the fede ation to gree that retail vatchers be granted a five-day week, with the elimination of Saturday trading. Provision is made in the Meat ndustry award for closing of vatcher shops on Saturday mornings between April and Sptember. ‘Mr G. Seelaf, union secretary, said yesterday that a survey by the union showed that business ‘on Saturday mornings did not warrant the shops ‘open. Failing agreement at Wednes day's conference, the union will apply to the Arbitration Court in Sydney on August 23 for a direction that retail butchers be granted a five-day week.
