The funeral was\ held from his late residence on Friday * #afternoon, his pastor, Rev. Dr. Will-1, iam E. Barton, officiating, assisted by -s Rev. Dr. J. E. Roy. Burial was in Forest Home. Mrs. C. S. Pellet sang one of the hymns, being one tbat Air. Rankin repeatedly called for during his illness.l~ | In bis address at the funeral, Dr.Barton paid a high tribute to the ie memory of Mr. Rankin as a man of in-tegrity and of high Christian ehar-acter. He spoke also of his sense ofhumor as a commendable element in a truly serious life, and of bis deep affections which detracted nothing st from strength of character, it Mr. Rankin had lived in America n since 1849, his whole business life here, ^ covering fifty-five years, being bound J. up with the life of Chicago. For R twenty-three years lie had lived in Oak Park, and was honored and loved by ie a wide circle of friends. e» Mr. Rankin was long a deacon in the First Congregational Church. At its re last annual meeting in December, on 'O motion of Deacon Pearson, he was unanimously elected a deacon emeritus for life. It is the first time this church has chosen any officer, except pastor, without time limitation. The honor was highly appreciated by Mr. Rankin, who never failed to mention it with gratitude.
