“An idea of the growth and importance of the automobile industiy may be gained from 1919 statistics recently made public by the National Automobile Chamber of Commerce,” says Mr. C. M. Dunn, local dealer in Chevroletpassenger and commercial cars.“The capital invested in 1919, not including parts and accessories, equalled $1,015,443,338. This exceeds four times the capital of all New York City banks by $126,043,338.“The number of miles travelled per passenger by automobile last year was 50 per cent greater than by railroad.“1,947,016 new cars were produced in 1919, and it is interesting to note that this was more than enough to give one to eveiy child born the same year in this country, (1,353,792) and to supply the 1917 baby crop of France,(343,319).“The total number of vehicles in use in the United States on January 1st, 1920, was 7,558,848. This is one for every fourteen persons in the country. And if these cars were placed in a row only four feet apart, they would completely encircle the earth.“The introduction to these Facts and Figures is interesting. ‘First among finished products’ is the position of the motor vehicle industry in the nation’s business. At the same time it is one of the basic industries. The motor car is the new transit of the countiy, to which the time of the individual and the handling of short haul freight has been attuned. From a comparative toy or novelty it has become a necessity.“Nearly one-third of the output is used in agriculture.”C. M. DUNN, Manager,Barnesville, GeorgiaChevrolet, Reo and Cadillac Cars
