'* j The hotels were very crowded, indeed so much so, that 1 was fearful I could not get anything to 4i refresh my inner man,1’ and n place to rest my weary head. But after a good dual of bustling of my worthy host, he found me a good room aud everything needful ; after which 1 considered myself, 44 emphatically so to any”—at home*The commencement of Wabash College* which is decidedly the feature of the season, brought with it the beauty and fashion for many miles around, not excepting even Indianapolis. The exercises of the graduating class, on yesterday morning, were very interesting; seme six or eight young gentlemen graduated and received their diplomas, in the presence of a large concourse of citizens arid strangers, and among the latter I recognized a fair delegation from the fair portion of the citizens of Indiana pedis-It was intended to have a pie-oic on yesterday afternoon, after the College exercises were ovur, ut 41 Backbone,” a beautiful grove a few miles from town, but the appearance of large black clouds, accompanied with thunder and lightning, aud rain immediately after, dispersed our anticipations of the pleasure from the contemplated ride, and compelled us to remain within doors*The visitors, and a great many of the students, having departed, Crawfordsville now presents a very dull appearance. There is nothing doing in 1 the way of business, and in that respect b, in proportion to its size, far behind the little “ city of the plain”—Indianapolis, Wabash College is the lifeblood of the town, and its benefits arc enjoyed by all classes. It seems to bo in a very prosperous condition, mid I think could not bo otherwise under i ts able and b igh 1y cd united p rofeasors. The young portion of the community are very agreeable and amiable in their manners, and are exceedingly polite and attentive to strung*;rs. The ladies, a3 far as beauty is concerned, will compare favorably with the ladies of any town in the State, except one, and that is our own little city. Although it is no disparagement to the ladies of this place, yet 1 rnus^ say, that a city that surpasses ours in the beauty of its ladies, is one particularly blessed.
