Greenwood Softball league standing and at the same time advanced to within four games of the the pace-making Albanies, Tuesday, by trimming Community Service for their thirteenth straight victory, 9 to 8. A two-run Sally in the last of the ninth which was helped along when right fielder De Vries muffed an easy fly gave the Mechanics a thrilling victory.John (Stako) bindgren, Community manager,, hurled a brilliant game for the losers’, but shaky defensive work in the outer gardens marred his chances of victory. Jake Tiggelaar, Garage hurler, found the going rather rough, especially in the late innings when he weakened noticeably.The Garage piled up a 6 to 1 margin in the first three rounds, but a determined assault in the seventh by Community, featuring a long home run by Johnny Herman, put things on an even basis. Another marker in the ninth gave Community the lead, 8 to 7, but the Garage came back in their half of the inning to win.With Woods on first due to a walk and one out Var Kalis singled to right and when DeVries let the ball get past him Woods scored and Var Kalis got to third. Bel-ski popped an easy fly to short right and again De Vries errored, letting the winning run come home.In other games, Albany stepped along at its usual clip, swamping Mitkus in its only game last week, 37 to 0, a»' 1 trimming Mitchell Ice on Monda; , 15 to 2. A big game was carded last night (Thursday) when Albany was scheduled to meet the Garage.The Hurwich Boosters pulled to within a game of the third place Community Service crew with a 14 to 3 triumph over Mitchell Ice anda 15 to 3 decision over the O Connell Boosters, who haven't won a game in the last 12 tries.The Rudolph A. C., after dig banding and forfeiting five games as a consequence,' reorganized last week and celebrated their return to good standing by walloping the much-harrassed Mitkus Boosters, Tuesday.A pair of erstwhile setups, Tiggelaar and Mitchell Ice, have improved their standing by recent efforts and are both aiming for fifth place, a spot now held by the Rudolphs. Tiggelaars now top the rival icemen by a half game.The Mitkus Boosters continue to hold up the league, being securely lodged in the cellar when they intend to spend the remainder of the summer and escape the heat.Next week’s feature contest will not take place until Thursday when the Albany A. C. meets Community Service after a week’s layoff.
