When Captain F. B. Upham, com mander of the U.S. Navy air forces in Florida, received his commission as rear admiral the other day from President Coolidge, he was the ‘first Montana man to attain that ‘rank in Uncle Sam’s navy. Admiral Upham is the son of Capt. F. K. Upham, stationed at old Fort Custer in the early days, and the ad miral, then just approaching ‘young manhood, was appointed to the .U.’ 8. naval academy at Annapolis by Tom Carter in 1889, the year Montana was admitted to statehood.
