Friday, 'Aug. ‘4, 1925Woman Constantly In Fear Kills Herself At Last By ShootingAfter living: in fear of (\o alh for many years, and only appearing in public heavily armed, Mrs. Mabel Nelson Trowbridge. beautiful and wealthy recluse, was found lifeless from a pistol wound in her head last Sunday afternoon.The body was found by servants and visitors behind a door fitted with special automatic locks in the boudoir of her lonely country estate a mile from the village of Miller's Place. Long Island.Mr?. Trowbridge. forty-sr-vr was the wife of Francis B. Trowbridge, of New Haven, one of the wealthiest and best known men of Connecticut. No Jury is Impanelled.Newspaper death notices published this week in New Haven *n»1 New York stated that Mrs. lYowbridge had died suddenly.From neighbors and villagers it was learned That Mrs. Trowbridge, who never went unaccompanied anywhere. and always had two .15 calibre revolvers with her.At her New York apartment, reception servants said that she always kept a large revolver on a table in front of her door, which was iouble-loeked and chained. No one was admitted to this apratment •xctpting they had been announced and a minute description given of then* appearance.Whether Mrs. Trowbridge's fearswere r^a! or Imaginary as to ^p^ct-o:l death from the hands of an enemy, she was nevertheless constantly prepared to fight for her life.Her house, near Miller's Place, 1* I., was on a cliff or high hill, close to. the Sound, the nearest place being that of a neighbor. 200 yards away.The house windows were heavily barred with cross-wire gratings. The thick woods and shrubs, growing up to within 20 feet of the building, were wined for electricity and scores of electric lamps were installed. Savage watch dogs were about the promises.
