By TONY BURNS July revenues for Cullman County Parks resulted in ‘‘the best month we've ever had, county park board members were told during their regular meeting Tuesday night. Last month's revenues from Smith Lake Park reached ap proximately 80 percent of the total revenue figures compiled over the past six months, while Sportsman's Lake Park enjoyed an additional $2,296.50 on top of its regular monthly revenue due to income from the newly acquired carpet golf facility. ‘Last month, ’ County Park Director Hollis Tucker told the board, ‘‘Smith Lake Park took in more revenue than ever before. It was easily the best month we've ever had.” Sportsman's Lake manager Seldon McAfee also reported a good month for that park, ‘probably the best I've ever see n.’ “If you include the revenue from our mini-golf facility,” McAfee said, “we've had the best month I've ever seen, and I've been here six years.” Boosted by a revenue increase ome $32,830.88 in June to a 040.87 figure reported for Ja y this year’s grand total reach ed $108,172.97 for last month. Total revenue for July was almost three times the reported figure for May, generally regarded as the first month of the summer season. May revenues totaled $16,283.83. Compared to monthly revenues at Smith Lake Park last year, the 1978 July total rose $15,620.73. Revenue figures for July, 1977, reached $32,420.14, while June, 1977, park revenues totaled $30,189.83. In his report to Board Chair man Robert Bryan, Tucker pointed out revenue totals for the past two months at Smith Lake Park have ‘increased greatly, a great deal more than we even ex A breakdown, of revenue figures shows July ticket sales at Smith Lake Park contributed $11,428 to last month’s total. Park revenues from campers totaled $9,957.10 in July, while concession sales totaled $9,683.37. June ticket sales were only slightly less than the reported July total. Ticket sales rose from a $4,980.50 monthly total in May to $10,572 in June. Campet revenues reached $6,121.05 in June and concession sales rose to a $7,129.54 total that same month. Carpet golf revenues from Smith Lake Park climbed over the $1,000 mark during the past two summer months. June carpet golf figures totaled $1,122.25, while the July figure reached $1,428.25 In a related item of business, Tucker also reported income from ticket sales, exhibits and concessions collected at the Southern States Bluegrass Festival at Smith Lake last weekend totaled $3,872, while ex penses totaled $1,1447. County Park Board members also agreed Tuesday night to in sure county park employees eeeee a Blue a Shield Pp separate from the policy covering other county workers. Under the plan, park workers will be enrolled as public employees in the community class (companies that employ five to 49 employees) at rates for equitable benefits for single coverage, totaling $27.75, or family coverage for $73.18. Board members also agreed to fund, but not to sponsor, a county boxing club. Club members were promised a sub sidy by the county commission during a past meeting and asked the Park Board to fulfill that pledge at the last board meeting. The park board agreed to fund $3,000 to the club, but declined the club’s request that the board serve as sponsor. Due to the expected beginning of the 1978-79 school year, board members were asked by the Park Director to name replacements for several Smith Lake Park employees who will be leaving to attend classes this fall. Board members named Mary Jo Peinhardt to replace Smith Lake Park lifeguard Karen Kessler, Richard Whitmire will replace Comprehensive (See Parks page 3A)
