Gold in Peru, Cincinnati, O., Aug. 2.—A special from Sims, C., saya: The news of the rich gold strike made [is Peru by Wallace Hardison, formerly for the city, has been confirmed. The first intimation of this good luck was re ceived by the public in dispatches to the press from San Francisco Sunday, although his intimate friends have known of his find for several months, a number of all operators being interested with him in the strike. Several years s ago Wallace and Charley Hardison came to this city from Pennsylvania, where the former represented at one time a district in Congress. They oper ated in the oil field for some time with ‘only miodstata success, and l eft for California. They drilled several avelle there for oil, but did not make a success. Charley Hardison was killed in ‘an explosion of a ehot at one of their wells. Afterwards Wallace left for Peru in search of oil. In prospecting he struck gold and came back to this country a few months ago and interested James Leonard, Joseph Evans, Charles Collins and the other members of the Davonian Oil Company, which is now operating in the West Virginia flaid, and they organized a company. Several weeks ago they re ceived news of the strike, and they are now shipping material for a railroad to their gold fields, which lie in Peru and Bolivia. The output of one of the mines for June was over $85,000. A number of Lima men who have been contemplat ing going to Alaska are now considering the advisability of going to Peru and Shima, where there seems to be just as much gold as in Alaska, without the hardships. John Lutz is getting up a company, and it is very likely several others will shave here before the sum mer is gone.
