Andrew’* Picnir.Scotchmen ami friends, to the number of over a hundred, participated Id seasonable sports, dancing and other enjoyments, at their picnic at Manuels yesterday. Their patron saint must have seen to it that they had tine weather, for the day was a glorious one, and when the first train left the depot at JO a.m. it took out a goodly contingent ofScots and tiiicsts who revelled In the bounteous pleasures, natural and artificial, which the day afforded. Arrived at Mrs. Roche’s comfortable hoaliery, the day’s sports began. A Scotch picnic is not reckoned a success at all unless sports abound, and the willing, □ess with which staid family men engaged In foot races, tugs-of-war, etc., is a striking testimony to the whole-sonled character of Tlie Enjoyment Thojr Obtain. Accordingly, football, cricket, races, and. other pleasant and congenial op. porlunltles of spending the day were availed of, and the gleeful shouts and cheers of victors and spectators wore heard re-echoing hy bill anil glade. A generous repast was served at tables spread in the open air, and the viands, inclusive of abundance ofLuscious Strawberries, partak-n of with a relish they would in no wise possess, if served under ordinary circumstances. It was a picnic and a pleasurable one,and the little shortcomings incidental to such affairs only served to make everybody more at case nnd to stimulate them to greater enjoyment of the occasion. Everyone was well satisfied when, at 8 o'clock a start was made for the train. Three trains were required to bring in the excursionists.
