WauTien. We get from the Commonwealth the details of the Independent State convention at Topeks. There were only 19 out of the 77 organized counties in the State. We quote: Mr. Otis offered the following: Resolved, That the Chairman be author it dvo acknowledge the receipt of the clestam from our National Committee, and that we pledge the earnest support of this body to the election of our esteemed co-laborer, Peter Cooper, as the next Président of the United States. Alr. McMahon moved that the re solution be submitted to the com mittee on resolutions and platform. Judge Bailey moved that the motion be tabled. H. McMahon supported hi motion—by saying that it was premature to pass such a resolution while the committee on resolutions and platform were out and had not yet reported. If the committee re ported a resolution endorsing Cooper he would vote for it. ‘Mr. Otis thought no one had any right in this convention unless he was willing to endorse Peter Cooper. I ought to acknowledge the receipt of the telegram and tell Mr. Cooper that we are with him. Mr. McMahon thought the effort to pose such a resolution now was a trick; didn’t believe that this con vention had any right to dictate whom members’ should support for President. Judge Bailey didn’t like the Ken tucky neutrality style. He wanted to be either all fish or all fowl. L. W. Hover said that the tele gram were trick, Mr. Sargent denied it and said it was getting. .. Mr. Otis didn’t know but what he had got into the wrong nest.
