Kupferberg ISiifellll passed away on Monday, July 31,2017, at Agrace HospiceCare surrounded by bis loving family.Joel was born on May 16,1940, in Chicago, III., the son of Ruth (Weinberg) and Manny Kupferberg. He graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1958 and attended the University of Illinois. Joel married Merilyn Breslow on Aug. 9,1964,in Sioux Falls, S.O.Joel moved to Madison in 1963 and was a local business owner for over 40 years, much of that time on State Street. During his years in Madison he served on several city and professional committees and in the early years also served in the Coast Guard Reserve. After Joel sold his business he worked at a private aviation company for five years. He was an active member of Angel Flight of America, flying over 70 missions for health care purposes. He served on the Board of Directors of Friends of MSCR and was a devoted participant in the MSCR Pontoon Boat Program in the capacity of boat captain and trainer. He was a longtimemember of Temple Beth El.Joel's many hobbies included model railroading and amateur radio. Joel took great pleasure in his yearly and often twice yearly Canadian fishing trips with both family and friends. He had an extra special time fishing with his grandsons. Joel was extremely passionate about flying and proud that as a private pilot he achieved a multi engine instrumentrating.Survivors include his cherished wife, Merilyn; beloved children. Jeff (Jen Lynch) of New Brighton, Minn., and Karen (Jon) Anderson of Me-chanicsville, Va.; grandsons, Daniel and David Anderson; sister, Joyce(Paul) Hackbert of Molina, Colo.; nieces and nephews; cousins; broth-ers-m-iaw and sisters-in-law, Lonnie (Penny) Breslow of Savannah, Ga., and Bob (Jean) Breslow of Dodgeville, Wis.; and many wonderful friendsand neighbors.He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Paul.The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate care and support.On Thursday, Aug. 3,2017, at 10 a.m., graveside service will take place at BEIT OLAMIM located in SUNSET MEMORY GARDENS, 7302 Mineral Point Road, Madison, followed by an 11:30 a.m. Memorial Service at TEMPLE BETH EL, 2702 Arbor Drive.
