Report: Arcadia man tried to burn down house After his wife demanded he leave her mother’s Englewood home, an Arcadia man tried to get back at her by setting fire to it, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Harold Edward Royce, 39, 1645 S.E. West Ave., was charged with committing arson. Deputies booked him into the county jail without bond. According to reports, Royce and his wife were argu ing at her mother’s home on the 1300 block of Rocky Creek Lane in Englewood, where she was staying, when the wife demanded her husband leave. Instead, the wife left, leaving her intoxicated and angry husband alone in the house. Royce later told police he took three cans of lighter fluid into the bedroom and doused the mattress and a pile of clothes next to the bed. Then he set fire to a shirt and threw it on the bed. However, he put out the fire, thought about it and set fire to the bed a second time before leaving the house on foot. Royce called the wife and told her the house was aflame. The woman immediately called 911. The Englewood Fire Department responded to the blaze. Deputies located Royce when he called them a short time later to report he had injured his hand throwing a glass shelf in the kitchen. Royce admitted what he did was wrong, but stated, “If I could n’t have it, she couldn’t have it.” Woman injured in jet-ski accident An unidentified woman suf fered a head injury in El Jobean Sunday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. when her jet-ski collided with some trees, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. Although the woman was “alert and responsive” after the accident, she was airlifted for medical treat ment as a precaution, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Bond: none. ¢ Christopher Daniel Sims, 10, 21274 Austin Ave., Port Charlotte Charges: committing criminal mischief, burglary while unarmed and petit theft. Bond: none. Marilo Maccarini Silva, 18, 23036 Westchester Blvd., Port Charlotte. Charge: possession of an alcoholic beverage by a per son under 21 years old. Bond: $500. ¢ Peter Paul Boncoski, 33, 1154 Edgemere Place, Englewood. Charge: DUI. Bond: $500. ¢ Russell Vernon Trent, 18, 680 Sharon Circle, Port Charlotte. Charge: supplying alcohol to a person under 21. Bond: $500. Justin Neil Jones, 18, 13596 Santa Maria Drive, Port Charlotte. Charges: delivering 20 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
