Barbecue dinner and supper and a dance were featured at the third annual reunion for pupils of the old Cedar Hill School held at Camp Allison Saturday. Johnny Martin’s Playboys furnished dance music. At a business session conducted by Eugene Adams, new officers were elected. Mrs. Dave Joy was named chairman. Selected to assist her were Dave Joy, Oscar Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Thiers, Elmer Pade gree, Mrs. Lee Monstron and Mrs. T. R. Driskel. It is announced that $67 had been donated for the 1952 reunion, which is to be held the third Saturday in July. As a project for the ensuing year the group decided to improve the picnic grounds. Meredith Joy was given a prize for bringing the oldest report card, which was dated 1912 and signed by the teacher J. W. Bode, now of New jraurfels. Lum Adams won the award for being the oldest pupil present. He attended the first school built in the vicin ity and was a pupil in 1884. According to Mr. Adams the school was built of logs, had a dirt floor and was heated by a fireplace. The term lasted only 3 or 4 months. The teach er’s salary was $30 per month. Coming from the fartherest distance was Dock Logan of Wilcox, Arizona. Mrs. Gene Lightfoot was the oldest teach er present, having taught first in 1914 and later in 1923 and 1935. Other teachers present were Mrs. Leonard Caldwell and Mrs. Roy Valliant of Son ora and Mrs. Thelma Thiers of Llano. Mrs. Dock Joy, who is 84 years old, was the oldest pa tron of the school attending. She told of receiving $10 per month for boarding teachers. Mrs. Berry Baker, an early-day pupil and long time resident of the area, told of being assigned the task of baking all the bread for an annual barbecue held at What is now Camp _ Allison. Joe Logan, Sutton Co. rancher, remembered going to school 3 months, then quitting to go to work. He later attended school again after the birth of his first son and was taught by the late R. M. Stevenson. More than 250 ex-students and visitors were registered by Misses Martha Jean Vallant and Flora Mae Minnick, Mmes. Roy Valliant, Matt Adams, Willie Andrews and Jean Lightfoot.
