MR. ANDREW MATHERAt his home in Liberty Hill Tuesday morning,‘’Uncle Andy Mather, pioneer Williamson County ranchman and Ex-Texas Ranger, died, following a brief illness, but after failing health for several months H e w a s buried Wednesday afternoon with in about 100 yards of the spot where he was born,Andrew Mather was born at Gabriel Mills, this county, June 11, 1851 and died July 23. 1929, age 78 years. 1 month and. 12 days. He was married to Miry Ellen Carroll November 19 1877, and to them three children were born, one dying in infancy, two sons, Charlie and Lee, surviving and Irving here, 9 grand, and 9 great-grand children, three brothers, Tom Mather'of Gain** ville, Sam of Eldorado, both of whom were at his bedside, and Lee who lives in Wyoming, and three sisters, Misses Mattie and Frankie Mather of San Angelo and Mrs. Sarah Peel of Kvle.also survive. His wife was buried about three years ago.Mr. Mather was said to be the second white child born west of the old Military Trail, one among the first in-this country, and while at times he had ranch in-terests further west, this county has always been his home andalmost his entire life was spent here, the last sixteen in Liberty Hill, since he retired from active life on the old Mather Ranch near here, which remained property of the family.Entering the service with the Texas Rangers in the spring of. 1875, Mr. Mather served as a commissioned officer under the Command of Captain Jeff Maults-by and was awarded medals for bravery and distinguished service. His industrial eareer has always been that of ranching. A typical, early cow man of thehardy type, he became known to many people all over the country and his passing will be mourned by many for away as well as the entire citizenship at home —The Liberty Hill News.
