Hon. Lew O’Bannon Addresses Centennial Cow.mittee in Suggestive Talk.Pageant Plans Developed by Prof. McLinn and It Looks Fine to the Committee.Many Matters are Discussed, Pageant Scenario lt;£-ven !Out. IThe meeting of the General Cents®* nial Committee last night- was f. jiiiost interesting one and everyone present took a lively part and many matter* it) relation to the great event were ths*» oughly discussed.Chief among these was the plan and scenario of the pageant, which wiil he one of the chief events «f that great day.Hon. Lew O'Baunnu of l.'orydou was present and made a splendid brief address, in which he gave the experiences met with by the Coryduuiane iu preparing their centennial which was such a success. He was listened to with the deepest attention. In closing, he pointed ont that, Indiana in qnite a number ot things had led the Union. He reminded his bearers, that New Harmony had been the seat of the first Geological bureau of the United States and that from the efforts of the Owens had sprung the great Suiithonian In stitntion. Indiana held the record for the best corn and as to intelligence it was the equal of all the snperior of many States. A rising vote of thanks wasg'iven him.Mr. O'Bannon Btated, that anything iu which Harrison eountians could as-■ist New Albany and Floyd county, they would do so with the greatest pleasure and they would corue in numbers to attend the centennial here.When Prof. C. B. McLinn rose to discuss the pageant, there was the tensest attention. The gentleman began by describing the place in Glen wood Park, where the pageant is to be enseened. This will be in a beautiful little valley on the edge of Silver Creek, just beyond a rustic bridge, where a level space gives ample room for placing the scenes and equally as good accommodation forThis place forms a natural amphitheater, which will accommodate an audience of thousands of people and yet in its center have space for unhampered action of the pageant.The pageant will be a thing of beauty and will he in two parts, tbe first part being in two episodes, relating to the history of the State and the second part being a symbolic masque. Altogether some 600 people will take part in these actions.The costumes will be made as nearly correct as can be.The three Tribes of Red Men. Pawnee, Mauzanita and Ohioab, have offered a hundred Indians in paint and feathers and war equipment for the occasion and the Camp Fire girls will also take part in the Indiana ceremonials-Corydon will furnish coouskin caps for the pioneer men in the scenes.The scenario of the pageant will be: l'AGEANT SCENARIO.First Episode—Spirits of tlielRiver and [ Spirits of the Hills appear from oppo- p; site sides, accompanied by 160 dancers, ' jj who form behind the spirit as they ex- \ ecute a symbolic dance. i g(Second Episode—'The appearance of I ^ r' the Indians in canoes, landing at the j 11 shore. Perform Tribal ceremony, while ; F J Spirits welcome them. !Third Episode—La Salle and liis voyagers and two priests appear upon the water, iu boats and are welcomed by the Indians who smoke the pipe of peace with thom. vFourth Episode—General GeorgeRoberts Clark reveals the secret ol' his mission and the secret instructions of Patrick Henry to capture Kaekaskia and Vincennes.Fifth Episode—First white Settler arrives with oxcart, and his family. Indians attack.Sixth Episode—Social Life of Pioneer: Lafollette’s Wedding and Infair.Seventh Episode—Schoolmaster and Circuit Rider Cartwright.Eighth Episode—Jonathan Jennings in backwoods campaign and stumping.PART II.Symbolic Masque, allowing development of State, Spirits of the Woods ami River, Spirit of tbe West, Spirit of Progress, Pnritan and Cavalier and Pioneer taking part.Trumpet call of Opportunity and entrance of Indiana attended by Agriculture, Industry, Commerce, Education, etc.Demon of War enters, is defeated and Goddess of Freedom entors. Finale.The scenario was received with much satisfaction by the committee and will undoubtedly attract much attention.
