Michael and Margaret Maurer, was bora in Kaskastal, rttras-burg County, Prance, March *, 1831, died at hi? home two . nd one lmIf mile? west of Winchester, 1 nd.. .1 uly 23, l*9y, aged sixty-eight years, four mouths and tit'teen days.He was the third of a family of live children, four sons and one daughter.The death of an infant son near Paris, France, and tlie denial by the ehrreh of France to ibe family of conducting the funeral and burial ceremonies of the little one as they wished, caused the parents great sorrow, and despite orders from the Inmpress. *kthat the body should be r. iken up and the family given the fref dom of conducting the ceremonies with burial in the cemetery,” the mother could not be comforted. This with the son’s dislike for inili-t.iry service led them to emigrate to America when Henry was a lad of sixteen. They embarked July 15, 1S47. landed in X. V. and resumed their journey b canal, arriving at their destination, Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 30. Here* they resided until 1*57, when they came to Randolph Co., March 1. Henry came soon after and has lived in Randolph Co. ever since, having been at his present homo over thirty years.He leaves one brother, one sister, ono son. one daughter and eleven graud children to tnocrn the departure of one they loved. All except the son and four grand children, who live in Illinois, have boen near him, caring for and ministering to him, making his du, s of suffering as comfortable as it was possible for loving hands to do The deceased was a plain man with an aversion for the frivolous, gaudy things of the world that were of no benefit to himself or others, a man upright in his dealings with fellow men, had led a quiet industrious life and the social place he occupied in the community will be left vacant.Funeral services conducted at New Dayton chureh. Monday, July 24th by Rev. A. M. Addington, as sisted by Rev. J. A. Wetzel, after which the remains were laid in Hear Creek cemetery.
