A Woman Killed.Manuels the Seene of the Catastrophe.We seldom hear of accidents on the line of railway. Although the line is, to a great extent, unfenced and unprotected, the care ehown by drivers and conductors has prevented much loss. But on the best regulated railways in the world, accidents will happen, and no amount of precaution or attention to detail con prevent them.On Friday a special cattle car, drawn by the well-known No. 10, left Holyrood at 2.05 p.m., with driver Candow, fireman Dunn, conductor Brophy and brakesman Mercer aboard. When passing Manuels, at about ten minutes to three, a woman was seen walking leisurely on the track some 300FEET DISTANT.The whistle blew for brakes, und the woman, looking round, saw the train, but continued Co walk on, as before. The danger whistle was sounded, but still she kept the track. At the third alarm she turned around and commenced to get out of the way of the approaching train.Just as she was stepping off the traok, the engine caught her. and her head came in contact with the signal post on the engine. As soon as the train could be stopped, the men aboard herPROCEEDED TO THE WOMAN,and, finding her to be.unconscious, conveyed her to the house of Joseph Morgan.At 3.30 the cattle train reached the city, and the regular followed at four o'clock. Immediately on arrival of the latter, Mr. Arthur Noble, with Constable Long and Dr. Rendell, jumped aboard and repaired to the scene of the disaster.The doctor, on examination, found a scratch on the right leg, an abrasion of the skin on the forehead and a severe contusion at the back Of the head, resulting evidently from the blow received by »TOE PASSING ENGINE.Strange to say no bones were broken and not a wine-glass full of blood escaped from the wounds.The woman’s namo was Fannie Noseworthy, the wife of Edward Noseworthy of Long Pond. Her age was 67 years.By this morning’s train a coffin furnished by Mr. T. M. White, the well known undertaker, was sent out. A magisterial investigation will be held.
